The Caravan of Fairy TalesDuring the summer of 2009 The House of Fairy Tales will be travelling to a dozen venues throughout the UK in a touring show called ‘The Caravan of Fairy Tales’. Our first stop is : THE CARAVAN OF FAIRY TALES AT THE TATE MODERNFriday 22nd - Monday 25th May 2009The Tate Modern - 53 Bankside, London, SE1 9TG
An installation on the front lawn of the Tate Modern during the Long Weekend of the Tate Modern’s annual festival. Over 100,000 members of the public will pass through this temporary environment of artists, designers, inventors and sengineers. The theme this year for the festival is Arte Povera a term coined by the Italian critic and curator Germano Celant in 1967. It was at a time of great economic and political instability and this art movment was seen as a reaction against the dominance of Pop Art, mass consumerism and capitalism. So in the spirit of Arte Povera our installation will be a celebration of experimentation. Art without restraint. We will be using natural as well as found materials reflecting the relationship between art and life. Like the historic event that inspired it, this event is extremely relevant in our current economic and political time. Come and pick up your passport to our magical world and join us in our quest to become worthy citizens.
